MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Apogee Enterprises, Inc. (Nasdaq: APOG) announced today its plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The theme "Celebrating 50 Years of Innovative Solutions" was created by a team of five employees representing each of Apogee's three business segments.

"We are very pleased to commemorate Apogee's 50th anniversary with a pledge of $500,000 to the University of Minnesota Cancer Center on behalf of all the Apogee families who have been touched by this disease," said Don Goldfus, Apogee's Chairman of the Board. "Our success over the past 50 years reflects the aspirations and accomplishments of our people. As we move into our next 50 years, while technology will be an increasingly important part of our strategy, our success will always be defined by the quality and compassion of our people."

Apogee Enterprises began with a single Harmon Glass shop in Minneapolis. A glass worker named Harold Burrows opened Harmon Glass on July 12, 1949, in a rented auto repair shop with two stalls. He was soon joined by his attorney, Russ Baumgardner, who retired as Apogee's Chairman in 1988 and was succeeded by Don Goldfus.

Today, Apogee's Auto Glass segment operates more than 400 retail and wholesale locations, making it the second largest auto glass company in the nation, with over $350 million in annual sales. Together with the Glass Technologies and Building Products & Services business segments, Apogee Enterprises has nearly $1 billion in annual sales.

Apogee Enterprises, Inc. is a world leader in technologies involving the design and development of value-added glass products, services and systems. The company is organized into three operating segments: Glass Technologies (GT), Auto Glass (AG), and Building Products & Service (BPS). Headquartered in Minneapolis, the company's stock is traded on the Nasdaq Stock Market under the symbol APOG.
